Chepauk week: three CSK home games and the spin-first read

The Chepauk surface in mid-April behaves like a typical Indian dry turner. The ball grips from over 7 onwards; spinners who bowl in the middle overs (8-15) earn most of their fantasy points from wickets in this phase. Powerplay wickets are rare at the Chepauk in April; the swing and seam movement that the morning moisture produces in March is gone by mid-April.

How the surface changes the read

The Chepauk in mid-April is the most predictable surface in the IPL. The home captain wins the toss and bowls in nine of the last eleven fixtures at this venue in this month. The dew advantage in the second innings is real: chasing sides win more often than defending sides, and the captain pick should bias towards the chasing XI.

Spin dominates the middle overs at the Chepauk. CSK's three spin-bowling all-rounders and two finger-spinners rotate through overs 8-15. Fantasy points from this phase come from wickets (25 each), economy bonuses (4 points per dot ball), and the occasional batting cameo from a promoted batter.
